Scholastic Art and Writing Competition

Hello! Happy March 14th!

I have been taking a little break, getting through this very un-wintery winter. Working, getting through sickness and just waiting for Spring Break to get here. Last weekend I had the honor of accompanying my oldest daughter to Denver Co. and seeing her art in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. There were over 2000 entries and only 200 picked to hang and she was one of them. SO very proud of her.

IT was a  wonderful time for us to spend together. 

Since going back to work, I feel like moments like these are less and less. She will be 14 in a little over a week and growing up so very fast. It was so fun to see the City through her eyes. I saw a young lady, with so much possibility and opportunities. I saw the way her eyes lit up being down town. Walking everywhere and I could tell it is going to be something she considers when she heads to college. Her future is so bright and I just hope she keeps wanting to take me along for the ride.

Sorry I have been absent. Summer has really gotten away with me. 

We are in full blown late Summer. Its HOT!

But now that we are on the downslope after July 4th, we are finally in monsoon season.

I love love love my afternoon thunderstorms. 

Cools everything down nicely...

But....

It really gets me in the mood for Fall.

It happens earlier and earlier every year. 

Right now, I am enjoying the dampness.

Weekend Ready

Happy Saturday! All is good. Hubs is home from Chicago. Gonna need surgery again for Metastatic Liver Cancer, thought we were done, but obviously not. Heading that way in a few weeks to finish up this business and hopefully get on with our lives. Had about enough of this Cancer stuff. Until then. I am gonna enjoy Summer!

One More Week to Freedom

We are in the last week of school. Things are winding down. End of year awards and picnics are happening. Life has been busy and hectic and I look forward to the freedom of Summertime. No alarms, no schedules and hopefully no worries. 

Thursday cant get here fast enough.

Getting Better....

Hello, happy Monday. 

I am finally getting better. I dont know if it was the flu, or what, but something wiped me out. 

There was no energy, fever, chills, aches, sore throat, cough and finally no voice. 

What voice there was, came out raspy and squeeky for two weeks now. Today will start week 3. 

I feel like half of my December has just fallen into an abyss. I dont remember much. I meagerly rangled my kids to school and back, one of which was sick as well but has overcome it wonderfully.

I still have to sit, catch my breath and look at everything that has piled up around me. 

Not what I had planned for December, but it never works out that way... 

does it?

But for now, I am learning that hard way that maybe someone was telling me to

slow down.

So slow down, and getting better, 

I am.

Winter Weather.... around the corner...

This is what we woke up to on Monday morning. Brrr. Winter is around the corner. You cant see it very well, but there is snow dusting the hills around us. 

We've had below freezing mornings ever since. 

The leaves will surely start to turn and fall soon.

First Day of School....

Today was my 4th grader's (cant believe I have a 4th grader) first day of school. For the last two weeks she has been apprehensive, because of a bad experience last year. But when I picked her up today, she was so happy. I have to admit I felt like I could finally breath. No mom wants to feel like they are sending their child off to a horrible experience. But I knew deep down that this one would be a wonderful one. We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Hope your day was just as great. I hope to be blogging more once the little one starts Pre-K in a few weeks. Mom time at last.

Learning a Lesson about getting involved and wishing I was on a beach right now....

Last week I learned a huge lesson about getting in the middle of issues. I am on a volunteer board of 6 women and somehow I ended up in the middle of a disagreement. And worse, I ended up the bad guy. Now this week, I am trying to dig myself out and lay low and I find myself wishing I was on a beach somewhere. My kids playing in the sand, away from all the stress and drama. I am thinking moving to a secluded spot, homeschooling my kids and raising them to be free of all of lifes stresses would be really great. Oh well, back to reality and to school.

Dreaming of Warmer Weather...

Happy Monday! Hubby is off today and we have some time just us since the kiddos are at school.  It's amazing how quiet the house is.

Bling Jeans...

I don't know if it is spring fever or what, but I am loving these blingy jeans I am seeing everywhere. My girls love anything sparkly and I think its rubbin' off on me. 

 Plus I have a new favorite guilty obsession, Gypsy Sisters. Loving that show. And they are all about the sparkle. 

Now if my butt just looked as good as the ones in the top pictures. 

(And I had to include the little girls as well because I know my girls would love these as well).

New Obsession... Photo Books

I have a new obsession. Yesterday, while black friday shopping. I wandered into Oshkosh. (no, buying clothes for my kids is not a new obsession. I have always had that one). When I checked out, the cashier gave me a gift from Oshkosh. It was a free 8x8 photo book from Shutterfly. Now at the time I really didnt pay much attention, grabbed my bag and headed out. When I got home I unpacked everything, put stuff away, messed around, and finally I unloaded the pants I bought the girls. I grabbed the random receipts and coupons and placed them into a pile and then finally looked at the little Shutterfly card. WOW! It was then after reading it that I realized this was a $30.00 value. I couldn't believe it. 

 

Now this is where the obsession comes in. I went onto their site and after uploading my pics, I picked a template and clicked on insert pictures and it did it all for me. All I had to do was enter my captions, quotes and place embelishments and order. I LOVED IT. 

 

I have always been an old fashioned scrapbooker. But now. I have a wonderful 20 page book of our Fall pictures which are by far my favorite. 

 

I figured out the cost. And if you purchase a book when they are 50% OFF like they are now, then it is cheaper than buying all the products and ordering the pictures for an old style book. 

 

Something to think about. 

 

So for now, I will be building books in my saved projects and when the price is right I will order them. Sometime technology can be pretty great.

Election Day

Hello, Happy Election Tuesday. Hope everyone is able to get out and vote. I think we will be having red white and blue sprinkled brownies tonight with ice cream. Yum. Can't wait to find out our election results!!

Thinking about Winter...

 

Today was a very chilly morning. Usually this kind of chilliness gets me curled up on the chair, with coffee in hand, watching TV. However, today I started looking at Pinterest and found some great ideas for Winter Decorating and Crafts. I thought I would share. I love the crispness in the air lately. I have to admit, I am hoping for lots of snow this year. Last year we had none, which is very unusual for us. And while I loved the mildness at the time, I did not like the fire danger and constant smoke haze in the air. So I would rather have the cold icy white, than the alternative.

Good and Bad...

Hello, hope your day is going well. I had a great time yesterday. We went to a local tourist town, splashed at the shore, window shopped, had coffee and ice cream. It was a wonderful day. Then today I went to get my camera and guess what... no camera. I think I lost it on the shore. I am sick. It wasn't even a very good camera, but still. So now I guess I am on the lookout for a good one. My husband hated the old one anyway. So I think I may get the Canon Powershot Sx40 HS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 35x optical zoom. It seems to be a good one. 
And I think some cute strap covers are in order as well.

~ Fall is in the air ~

Sorry I haven't posted in a while... I caught my girls cold. All better now... well getting there anyway. Fall is in the air around here. There are leaves changing colors and falling already. There is frost in the mornings and a coolness in the breeze blowing the leaves around on the street.  This picture is from our Raspberry picking. We found this really cool spider just hanging out on his web. Makes me think of Fall and Halloween.... I love it!

Such a Lucky Girl....

I am so lucky. I have a wonderful friend who brought me a belated birthday gift from Norway. I love it. She brought me lots of Tilda fabric, paper, stickers and ribbon. She even wrapped it in Tilda wrapping paper (which I carefully unrapped and am saving for a project). Thank you friend, you are amazing!
